In its implementation of the Union government’s upcoming PM Vishwakarma scheme, the Uttar Pradesh government is set to rope in skilled people to train the beneficiaries. As part of its efforts which will commence on September 17, skilled people from 18 various occupations will be training the beneficiaries.
The PM Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman Yojana is a welfare scheme which is set to be launched by the Union government on September 17. It envisages to provide end-to-end holistic support to the traditional artisans and craftspeople in scaling up of their conventional products and services.
“After verifying the skills of the beneficiaries of ‘PM Vishwakarma scheme, the government will provide them 5 days of basic training. Afterward, 10 percent of ‘Vishwakarma’ [beneficiaries] will also receive advanced-level training for better performance. Advanced training will acquaint them with new techniques to meet changing customer demands and enhance their products,” the press statement issued yesterday, on September 13, mentioned.

“Notably, all ‘Vishwakarmas’ will receive a daily stipend of Rs 500. The Yogi government aims at providing basic training to 30 lakh [three million] ‘Vishwakarmas’ and advanced training to 3 lakh [300,000] of them,” a press statement issued by the state government.
As per the press statement, the ‘Vishwakarmas’ who will benefit from the scheme include carpenters, boat builder, weapon maker, blacksmith, hammer and toolkit maker, locksmith, goldsmith, potter, sculptor, stone breaker, cobbler, mason, basket, mat, and broom weaver, traditional toy maker, barber, garland maker, laundry worker, tailor, and fishing net makers.
It was underlined that the three million ‘Vishwakarma’ workers who undergo basic training will also receive incentives in the form of Rs 15,000 e-vouchers or e-cash for toolkits. Additionally, they will receive an incentive of Re 1 per transaction for up to 100 digital transactions per month, encouraging them for digital transactions.

“Master trainers from local industries will be selected for training. It will also be ensured that all Vishwakarmas are available for skill verification and basic training and complete it. Monitoring of training and training centers will also be done at the district and state levels,” the statement mentioned.
