Stressed Home Environment May Cause Mental Disorders In Kids. Know Symptoms

Lack of concentration along with excessive activity in kids can be identified as, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). According to available studies, around 1.6% to 12.2% children are suffering with ADHD problem. ADHD condition may get worse in home with high level of stress. It is observed that it can also trigger when parents excessively pressurise their kids for studying. As per Indian Medical Association (IMA), higher number of ADHD cases are found in pre-schools or KG class students. In some children, initial stages of adolescence may become critical. It can affect adults as well.

Hypersensitivity & Behavioural Problems

IMA Chairman Dr KK Agrawal said, "Children with ADHD condition may show hyperactivity and behavioural problems as ADHD symptoms. It becomes hard to take care of them or to team them anything. They don't adopt the school environment easily and they keep doing mischiefs. It may cause difficulties in later life If not controlled at early stages. "

He further added, "Although there is no 100% cure for ADHD but, we can reduce the symptoms and we can improve the activity patterns of these children. Some medical alternatives also include medicines, psychotherapy, learning or training programs or a mixture of all of them."

Watching TV Is The Cause?

Dr KK Agrawal divided the ADHD symptoms in three divisions. He told, " First is lack of attention, Over Activity and dissatisfaction."

He busted some myths about ADHD. He said, "Having sugar, watching Tv, poverty or food allergies do not cause ADHD. "

Dr Agrawal told, "Education, Support and Creativity can help these children to manage the ADHD condition. Nonetheless, living comfortably with ADHD children is a challenge but time management can help. Parents should understand that ADHD do not define the IQ or ability of your kid. Parents should try to find the strengths of their ward and they should focus on them for better results."

Noida's Manas Ganga hospital has treated many children with ADHD. In a press conference, organised on the eve of world mental health day, senior psychiatric Dr Manu Tiwari said, "We can treat ADHD but it's important to diagnose it. Parents should not be angry with such children and neither they should ignore them. You should give a chance to your children by providing them Right phycological consultation."

Dr, Avani, Phychiatric Metro Hospitals says, "Parents should be aware of ADHD condition. In such cases, Parents also need counselling with their kids. We recommend clinical and phycological analysis before treatment. Behaviour therapy can also help."

Pediatric neurologist Dr Rekha Mittal said, "You can identify ADHD in your child on the basis of these symptoms: - If your child is having lack of concentration or focus, hyperactivity, excessive aggression, lack of interest in studies or if you see lack of patience in them."

How to Handle ADHD identified Children?

• Set the routine: Outline the fixed boundaries so that everyone would be aware of the expected behaviour.

• Prize and Gifts: Good work should be rewarded by the praise or present. This can strengthen positive behaviour. You can introduce a point or star system to encourage.

• Notice Warning Signs: Pay attention to your child If you feel that he/she is going to be out of control. Try to engage them in some other activity.

• Invite Friends: This would help your child be sociable. But, ensure that your child should not lose temper.

• Improve Sleep Cycle: Let your child take a proper sleep. Don't let them get distracted in by any exiting activity while sleeping.
