COVID vaccination for kids aged 12-14 years to begin from March 16

The Union government has decided to expand the COVID19 vaccination for children in the age bracket of 12-14 years from this week on March 16. Besides, everyone above 60 years of age is now eligible for the third dose.

The central government has decided to start COVID19 vaccination for children in the age group of 12-13 years and 13-14 years (those born in 2008, 2009 and 2010) from March 16. The COVID19 vaccine to be administered would be Corbevax manufactureCorbevaxd by Biological Evans, Hyderabad. Last month on February 21, emergency use authorization was granted to Hyderabad-based Biological E's Corbevax for the age group of 12-18 years. Children above 14 years of age are already being administered COVID19 vaccine as part of the country's COVID19 vaccination programme.

Meanwhile, the government has also decided that the condition of co-morbidity for COVID19 precaution dose for people above 60 years of age will be removed forthwith. In other words, the entire population above 60 years of age will be eligible for precaution dose of COVID19 vaccine from March 16.

So far, 1.801 billion doses have been administered in the country. Of these, 21.26 million precaution doses were administered.
