Vajpayee continues to be critical; prayers across the nation

Lucknow/ New Delhi. The condition of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee remains critical. The latest health update from All India Institute of Medical Sciences states, "Former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee's condition continues to be the same. He is critical and is on life support systems."

Meanwhile, dignitaries cutting across party lines visited the ailing statesman in AIIMS. LK Advani visited AIIMS with his daughter Pratibha Advani. Rahul Gandhi also visited AIIMS to check on the health of the leader. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had also visited AIIMS. Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spent an hour at AIIMS with the former prime minister.

Prayers for the well-being of the beloved leader have been pouring in. On social media also, people are praying for a swift recovery for the former prime minister.

According to doctors, Vajpayee complained of difficulty in breathing on Wednesday morning. He was administered medication for the same. By afternoon his condition stabilized marginally. But it still remains critical. Vajpayee is an old patient of diabetes and had lost the function of one kidney. In 2009 he had suffered a stroke after which he had problems recognizing people. He had subsequently lapsed into dementia. He was admitted to AIIMS on 11 June 2018 after he suffered from infection in his urinary tract and upper respiratory tract. On Wednesday, he was put on ventilator. A team of doctors is monitoring his condition round the clock.
