आईसीएआर-आईआईवीआर के वैज्ञानिकों ने मिर्च की एक नई किस्म काशी सिंदूरी विकसित की है जिसकी खेती किसानों के लिए काफी फायदेमंद साबित हो सकती है। यही नहीं इस किस्म की मिर्च से प्राप्त रंगों का इस्तेमाल सौंदर्य प्रसाधनों में भी किया जा सकता है।

साल 2018 में उत्तर प्रदेश के चंदौली जिले में धान की खेती ने एक नया मोड़ लिया, जब यहां पहली बार काले चावल की खेती पहल की शुरूआत हुई। इसकी खेती करने वाले किसानों को अच्छा मुनाफा मिलता था। लेकिन मांग में कमी के कारण बड़ी मात्रा में काला चावल बिना बिके रह गया है। कई किसानों ने तो खेती करना भी छोड़ दिया है, लेकिन उन्हें उम्मीद है कि अगर सरकार कोशिश करे तो वे पौष्टिक और पारिस्थितिक रूप से लाभकारी चावल की किस्म को फिर से उगाएंगे।

चंदौली जिले में 300 बीघा से अधिक कटाई के लिए तैयार गेहूं की फसल में पानी भर गया है, क्योंकि वरिला-माइनर नहर ओवरफ्लो हो गई है। किसानों की शिकायत है कि दशकों से नहर पर कोई रखरखाव का काम नहीं किया गया है, जो जगह-जगह दरारों और भारी गाद के कारण उनके खेत पानी में डूब गए हैं।

Worst affected are the labourers at the market who are employed to load and unload the coal from the never ending trail of trucks. Tuberculosis cases are rampant. In its June 2022 report, the state pollution control board has recommended relocation of the mandi, but there is no deadline in sight. A ground report.
