सहरसा के नवहट्टा में कैदली पंचायत के रामपुर छतवन में तरबूज की खूब खेती होती है। यहाँ बाहरी राज्यों से किसान आते हैं और खेती करके लाखों रुपये कमाते हैं। जबकि इन जमीनों के मालिक बाहरी राज्यों में पैसा कमाने जाते हैं।

सुगंधित पान के पत्तों के लिए मशहूर बिहार का मुंगेर जिला इसकी खेती को बचाए रखने के लिए संघर्ष कर रहा है। बढ़ती गर्मी, सूखे जैसे हालात और अनियमित मौसम पान की खेती को कम कर रहे हैं। किसानों को डर है कि जल्द ही मुंगेर के प्रसिद्ध पान के पत्ते नजर आना बंद हो जाएंगे।

Known as the most backward and poor district of Bihar, Kishanganj is coming out of the shadows as a library movement takes shape that holds great promise for the many underprivileged children. Saquib Ahmed’s Seemanchal Library Foundation has set up three rural libraries in the district that are daily visited by 200 children, many of whom have never been to school.

There are community libraries functioning in 45 blocks in small towns and villages in Bihar. Jeevika, an initiative of the state government to alleviate poverty and enhance the quality of life amongst the rural population, hopes to have libraries up and running in 100 blocks across 32 districts in the state.
