The hill village in Mirzapur, which had recently been provided with piped water supply and tap connections, is back to using water from tankers. Within days of inauguration of its water supply project, the pipeline was damaged, and there are issues regarding power supply and diesel availability.

Several districts in Rajasthan are in the grip of a severe cold wave. According to IMD, this is the first time since January 3, 2014, that the temperature has dipped to minus 2.7 degree Celsius. Mustard crop is badly damaged and several other crops have suffered losses too.

With the IMD officially declaring severe heatwave conditions in eastern Uttar Pradesh of which Ballia is a part of, at least 68 people in the district have been reported as dead and more than 400 have been hospitalised in the last 3 days. The deaths have sent alarm bells ringing but so far, the authorities have denied the heat wave to be the cause of this medical emergency. Similar reports are surfacing from Bihar which witnessed almost 50 such deaths. Details here.

Hilly terrain, hard to extract groundwater and failed schemes make life miserable for the 3,000 odd villagers of Lahuria Deh village in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. Each of them gets just 15 litres of water a day to drink, cook and wash. Women suffer the most. A ground report as part of Gaon Connection's Paani Yatra.
