उत्तराखंड के चमोली जिले में स्थित नंदा देवी ग्लेशियर का एक हिस्सा आज सुबह फट गया। इस वजह से धौली गंगा नदी का जल स्तर अचानक से बढ़ गया और बाढ़ जैसी स्थिति उत्पन्न हुई है। फिलहाल घाटी में जारी दो जल विद्युत परियोजनाओं को इससे भीषण नुकसान हुआ है और उस पर काम कर रहे लगभग 150 मजदूर गायब हैं।

कड़कड़ाती ठंड के बावजूद चमोली में भूस्खलन और बाढ़ से प्रभावित 13 गांवों के लोग जंगलों में डेरा डाले हुए हैं। वे कहते हैं कि उनके घरों में सुरंग के कारण पहले से ही दरारें पड़ गई हैं। इस बीच, बताया जा रहा है कि ऋषिगंगा और धौलीगंगा नदियों का जल स्तर फिर से बढ़ रहा है।
