नवरात्रि में सरसों, सोयाबीन या रिफाइंड तेल वर्जित माना जाता है। विशेषज्ञों का कहना है ऐसे में बाज़ार का मिलावटी तेल खाने से बेहतर है व्रत में घी, घर का बना मक्खन या मूँगफली तेल का सही मात्रा में इस्तेमाल किया जाए इससे किसी तरह की बीमारी से भी बच सकते हैं।

वाराणसी के बंगाली टोला में आजकल खूब चहल-पहल है क्योंकि कारीगरों ने मां दुर्गा की मूर्तियों को अंतिम रूप दे दिया है। यह इलाका 100 साल से भी पहले अस्तित्व में आया था जब बंगाल के बुजुर्ग लोग अपने अंतिम दिन बिताने के लिए वाराणसी आए थे।
