Compared to last year, between October 1 and November 5, the incidents of farm fires have reduced by 47.8% in Punjab and 38.04% in Haryana. However, wind movement towards Delhi has resulted in the deterioration of air quality which is presently marked in the hazardous category.

65 वर्षीय निरंजन सिंह ने चिट्ठी में लिखा है, "हमारे 9वें गुरू श्री तेग बहादुर साहिब ने जुल्म के खिलाफ आवाज उठाई थी और बलिदान दिया था और इसलिए मैं अपने प्राणों का बलिदान दे रहा हूं ताकि गूंगी,बहरी, और अंधी सरकार के कानों तक आवाज पहुंच सके।"

Nine months after violent clashes during a farmers' stir in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri, Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait organised a 75-hour long protest in the district and reasserted the demands of the cultivators. The main demands include sacking of Union Minister Ajay Mishra 'Teni', withdrawal of legal cases registered against the farmers and a legal guarantee on the minimum support price. Details here.
