महिलाएं रक्षाबंधन त्योहार में ज्यादातर अपने भाइयों और पतियों पर निर्भर रहती हैं, उत्तर प्रदेश के बाराबंकी जिले की लगभग 9 हजार ग्रामीण महिलाएं अब न केवल अपने खर्च पर उत्सव का आनंद लेने में सक्षम हैं, बल्कि अपनी घरेलू आय में योगदान करने में सक्षम भी हैं।
