With the IMD officially declaring severe heatwave conditions in eastern Uttar Pradesh of which Ballia is a part of, at least 68 people in the district have been reported as dead and more than 400 have been hospitalised in the last 3 days. The deaths have sent alarm bells ringing but so far, the authorities have denied the heat wave to be the cause of this medical emergency.
