हर साल, भारत में 58,000 लोग सांप काटने से अपनी जान गंवा देते हैं, जिनमें से सबसे अधिक मौतें उत्तर प्रदेश में होती हैं। भले ही प्राथमिक स्वास्थ्य केंद्रों पर एंटीस्नेक वेनम को 'आवश्यक' दवाओं में शामिल किया गया हो, लेकिन फिर भी केंद्रों पर एंटीवेनम की कमी का सामना करना पड़ता है।
