उत्तर प्रदेश में लखीमपुर खीरी जिला प्रशासन की एक अनुठी पहल ग्रामीण महिलाओं को आर्थिक रूप से सशक्त बना रही है। प्रशासन महिलाओं को ट्रेनिंग दे रहा है कि कैसे फेंके जाने वाले केले के तने से फाइबर यानि रेशा निकालें। इस रेशे से बनाधागा यहां से दूर दूर जा रहा है।

कर्नाटक के अनेगुंडी के प्राचीन गाँव में एक ग्रामीण विकास समाज, स्थानीय रूप से प्राप्त केले की फसल के कचरे का इस्तेमाल टोकरियां, चटाई, टेबल रनर और लैंपशेड बनाने के लिए कर रहा है। यह ग्रामीण महिलाओं को विभिन्न कौशलों में ट्रेनिंग दी जाती है और उन्हें अपना व्यवसाय शुरू करने और चलाने में सक्षम बनाता है।
