भारत की पहली डिजिटल समुद्री मत्स्य जनगणना शुरू हो गई है। ‘व्यास भारत’ और ‘व्यास सूत्र’ जैसे मोबाइल ऐप्स के ज़रिए 13 तटीय राज्यों के 12 लाख मछुआरा परिवारों की जानकारी जुटाई जाएगी। ड्रोन सर्वे और रियल-टाइम डेटा ट्रैकिंग से यह अभियान मत्स्य क्षेत्र में पारदर्शिता, सटीकता और तकनीकी प्रगति का नया अध्याय बनेगा।

Last week, the district hospital in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh reported a surge in deaths for which a probe is underway. Gaon Connection met some families who brought their sick family members to the hospital during extreme heat conditions prevailing in the district, but lost them. The government has denied any link between the deaths and the heatwave.

Two years after finding it unsustainable to pursue their traditional singing, about 150 Kendara singers in Odisha are now back to wandering in the villages, humming songs while playing their cherished musical instrument which dates back to the 12th century. State government’s efforts to include these artists in the craft festivals and the ongoing festive season has brought cheers to the wanderer-singer community. Details here.
