As per a recent report on the adverse weather events due to a changing climate, from January 1 to September 30, India faced some form of natural disaster almost every day. These disasters resulted in the loss of 2,755 human lives, destruction of 1.8 million hectares of crop area, damage to 400,000 houses and deaths of 70,000 livestock.

Displaced from their forest homes inside the Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh, tribal inhabitants struggled for years to find a place to call their own. In his Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, from the ramparts of the Red Fort, said the mother earth was being destroyed due to excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Farmers will have to make some drastic changes in the way they have been functioning. Discarding modern practices and adopting old methodologies in farming won't help in undoing the damage that's already being done. We will have to make ancient methods favorable to the modern era
