खाद्य जीएम फसलें मानव स्वास्थ, पर्यावरण और खेती-किसानी के लिए कितनी उपयोगी होगीं यह आने वाले कुछ वर्षों के बाद ही तय होगा। भारतीय कृषि अनुसंधान परिषद द्वारा वैज्ञानिकों की देखरेख में कराये गये प्रदर्शनों के बाद दावा किया गया है कि जीएम सरसों की डीएमएच 11 किस्म भारत की कई स्थानीय सरसों की प्रजातियों के मुकाबले 30 प्रतिशत तक अधिक उत्पादन देने की क्षमता रखती है।
