हसदेव अरण्य वन क्षेत्र में कोयला खदानों के 'अवैध' अधिग्रहण के विरोध में सरगुजा और कोरबा जिलों के 350 से अधिक ग्रामीण पिछले 10 दिनों से छत्तीसगढ़ की राजधानी रायपुर पहुंचने के लिए मार्च कर रहे हैं, और पेसा पेसा अधिनियम को लागू करने की मांग कर रहे हैं। वे राज्यपाल अनुसुइया उइके से मिलना चाहते हैं और उन्हें अपनी याचिका के बारे में बताना चाहते हैं।

Two years after finding it unsustainable to pursue their traditional singing, about 150 Kendara singers in Odisha are now back to wandering in the villages, humming songs while playing their cherished musical instrument which dates back to the 12th century. पर्यावरण मंत्रालय द्वारा छत्तीसगढ़ के हसदेव जंगल में कोयला खनन को मंजूरी दिए जाने के बाद, 25 से अधिक संरक्षणवादियों ने छत्तीसगढ़ के मुख्यमंत्री को पत्र लिखकर पारिस्थितिक रूप से संवेदनशील क्षेत्र में कोयला खनन विस्तार को रद्द करने की मांग की। इस बीच हाई कोर्ट ने हसदेव अरण्य में परसा कोयला ब्लॉक के लिए भूमि अधिग्रहण पर रोक लगा दी है।

Adivasi communities may be unlettered but they have ancient wisdom and traditional knowledge that can put development pundits to shame. But, on these rich lands — with finite wealth of coal, sponge iron, bauxite, aluminium, and several other minerals – live some of the poorest people. Laws such as the FRA, 2006, and the PESA Act, 1996 need effective implementation.
