All its operations have been digitalised through a mobile application. A similar story is unfolding in Himachal Pradesh, where apple farmers are benefitting from the cold storage and shelf-life monitoring, which were not so accessible earlier.

The state government’s relief package aims to compensate farmers who had faced devastating damage to their crops due to floods in the months of September-October last year as well as those who suffered losses due to the unseasonal rains in January this year. In 2020-21, over 64,879.26 metric tonnes of apples and 3,67,309.04 metric tonnes of potatoes were produced in Uttarakhand, a large chunk of it in Chamoli district. But, due to a lack of cold storage units, farmers are forced to sell their produce at a very low rate. Setting up cold storage facilities can cut down post harvest losses and increase farmers' income.
