Bihar's Muzaffarpur is a hub for vegetables and fruits. Cold storage units can go a long way in cutting down losses suffered by the traders and farmers, as demonstrated by the five metric tonnes cold storage unit running in Nwera village. All its operations have been digitalised through a mobile application. A similar story is unfolding in Himachal Pradesh, where apple farmers are benefitting from the cold storage and shelf-life monitoring, which were not so accessible earlier.

The sheer mention of Maharashtra’s Marathwada region brings forth memories of droughts, crop losses, and farmers’ suicides. The delay in monsoon rainfall this year has kept the farmers on tenterhooks who have sown their kharif crops and now a lack of rainfall is leading to sowing failure. Any further delay in the rains may be a death knell for their kharif crops. A ground report.

In 2020-21, over 64,879.26 metric tonnes of apples and 3,67,309.04 metric tonnes of potatoes were produced in Uttarakhand, a large chunk of it in Chamoli district. But, due to a lack of cold storage units, farmers are forced to sell their produce at a very low rate. Setting up cold storage facilities can cut down post harvest losses and increase farmers' income.
