Rajasthan Kabir Yatra, India's longest travelling folk music festival, is underway from October 2-8. This 'pilgrimage' is co-hosted by Rajasthan Police under its Project Taana Baana. Poet saints of Rajasthan have helped the police to strengthen the warp and weft of communal amity. To know more about this initiative, Gaon Connection strikes up a conversation with Dr Amandeep Singh Kapoor, Director, Central Detective Training Institute, Jaipur, which is under the Bureau of Police Research & Development, Ministry of Home Affairs.

21-year-old Rohit Yadav from a small village in Uttar Pradesh overcame straitened circumstances and lack of training equipment to become a national javelin player. He was recently placed tenth in the World Athletics Championships at Oregon in the US, and is warming up to garner some glory at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Between 2019-20 and 2021-22, at least 1,578 people have died of elephant attacks in the country. Odisha tops the list followed by Jharkhand, West Bengal and Assam. On July 23, a 32-year-old forest guard got killed in the crossfire between stone pelting villagers and an enraged tusker in Khunti, Jharkhand.
