पिछले कुछ वर्षों में सजावटी मछलियों का चलन तेजी से बढ़ा है, जिसके साथ व्यवसाय भी बढ़ रहा है, लेकिन अभी भी दूसरे प्रदेशों से मछलियां मंगानी पड़ती है, ऐसे में केंद्र व प्रदेश सरकार मछली पालन की कई योजनाएं चला रही हैं।

ओडिशा के कटक में केंद्रीय मीठाजल जीवपालन अनुसंधान संस्थान, भुवनेश्वर की मदद से राज्य का पहला ऑर्नामेंटल एक्वाकल्चर फील्ड स्कूल शुरू किया गया है, इस स्कूल को पिछले कई सालों से मछली पालन कर रहे राजेश रंजन महापात्र संचालित कर रहे हैं। प्रधानमंत्री मत्स्य संपदा योजना की मदद से रंगीन मछलियों का व्यवसायिक पालन को बढ़ावा दिया जा रहा है।
