Grateful that her parents encouraged her to study and didn't force her to marry at a young age, 20-year-old national level Kabaddi player Neelam Pardhi is aware that she has merely been lucky to do what she wanted in life. There are thousands of girls like her from her 'denotified' community who yearn to decide their own courses of lives — and the young athlete's greatest ambition is to inspire these girls to break free from the shackles of gender divide and get rid of the stigma attached to her community. On July 16 and 17, at the Green Hub Central India Mahotsav held in Bhopal, documentaries made by adivasi youth from Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand were screened. The programme marked the successful culmination of a 10-month residential training to 17 young tribals who were taught the nuts and bolts of documentary-making and encouraged to make films around their lives.

Saguni Devi Bairva is an adivasi farmer from Ajmer, Rajasthan, and she so inspired another young adivasi, Arti Singh from Chhattisgarh, that latter made a documentary on her called ‘Kisan Hoon, Nidar Hoon’, which was recently screened at the Green Hub Central India (GHCI) festival in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
