राशन कार्ड धारकों को राष्ट्रीय खाद्य सुरक्षा अधिनियम के तहत मई और जून में मिलेगा प्रति व्यक्ति 5 किलो अतिरिक्त गेहूं-चावल, देश में कोविड के बढ़ते मामलों और कई राज्यों में लगे लॉकडाउन के चलते लिया गया निर्णय।

लॉकडाउन होते ही सरकार ने लोगों के लिए मुफ्त राशन की घोषणा की थी ताकि किसी को काम या पैसे के अभाव में बिना राशन के भूखे पेट ना सोना पड़ा। सरकार की इस योजना का गरीबों को लाभ होता दिखा और लगभग 71 फीसदी राशन कार्डधारकों ने कहा कि उन्हें मुफ्त राशन मिला। हालांकि जिनके पास राशन कार्ड नहीं थे, उनमें से लगभग तीन चौथाई (73 फीसदी) लोग इस योजना से वंचित रह गए।
