शोधकर्ताओं ने चाय के कचरे से सक्रिय कार्बन तैयार करने के लिए एक वैकल्पिक सक्रिय एजेंट के रूप में केले के पौधे के अर्क का इस्तेमाल किया है। उनका कहना है कि चाय के प्रसंस्करण से आमतौर पर चाय की धूल के रूप में ढेर सारा कचरा निकलता है। इसे उपयोगी वस्तुओं में बदला जा सकता है।

मूंगफली के छिलकों को अब कचरा नहीं, जल शुद्धिकरण का सस्ता और टिकाऊ समाधान माना जा रहा है। वैज्ञानिकों ने एक नई तकनीक विकसित की है जिसमें इन छिलकों से बायोफिल्टर तैयार कर गंदे पानी से भारी धातुएँ, विषैले तत्व और रोगाणु हटाए जा सकते हैं। भारत जैसे कृषि प्रधान देश के लिए यह नवाचार पर्यावरण संरक्षण के साथ-साथ ग्रामीण आजीविका के नए रास्ते भी खोल सकता है।
