The government has been consistently promoting the production and consumption of millets for a variety of reasons. Besides being extremely nutritious and relatively cheap, millets, in comparison with wheat and paddy, consume very less water. Besides this, their farming doesn't call for urea or any other chemical making it environment-friendly

Joshimath in Uttarakhand has both religious and tourist significance. But several villages in the area are slowly subsiding, say the local villagers and scientists who have studied the region. Houses have developed cracks making it highly unsafe for people to live in them. Maximum subsidence is observed in the wards of Ravigram, Gandhinagar and Sunil, and thousands of people may be displaced.

Gaon Connection talks to some experts.

Having sensed that the water from the wells in their villages is devoid of toxins like arsenic and unhealthy levels of iron content, rural residents in Bihar are gradually renouncing the use of handpumps. Community action aided by some NGOs has led to the revival of wells in the Khagaria district which has resulted in a decrease in the disease burden in some of the villages. A ground report from the rural hinterland of Bihar.

It's been more than two years since children in Uttar Pradesh's anganwadis have been served hot cooked meals, though most other states have resumed them, post pandemic. But India's most populous state, with a high burden of malnutrition, continues to distribute dry rations. The state government has given an assurance that hot meals will be resumed from January 2023.
