Inspired by his father who set up the first private school in Budgam, J&K, and educated underprivileged children free of cost, Sayed Abdul Rouf, a retired joint secretary, followed suit by establishing a school in his father’s name that also provides free education to orphans and children from economically backward families.

Bangladesh is no stranger to floods. Almost every year, the country battles them during the monsoon season. However, this year unprecedented heavy rainfall has brought devastating floods, earlier than usual in the month of May. It's been almost two months and the north and northeastern regions of the country are still struggling as flood waters have washed away millions of houses and inundated hundreds of thousand hectares of farmlands. A ground report from the flood-hit Sylhet region.

His is a story of dream, hope, grit, sacrifice and triumph. The hardships that he faced in accessing education in his childhood were so deeply etched in his psyche that Dr Shiv Balak Misra, a noted geologist, gave up his comfortable job in Canada and returned to his village in Uttar Pradesh to set up a school that has been providing education to rural children for the past 50 years.

His is a story of dream, hope, grit, sacrifice and triumph.
