Banana cultivation in Unnao district is becoming popular with the farmers as they reap profits that are way more than the traditional crops of paddy and wheat. From a mere 40 hectares about four years ago, banana cultivation is now spread across nearly 140 hectares of land in the district.

Six rural women from Vaishali district in Bihar have set up the state’s first FPO, with support of Jeevika, where they make banana yarn out of discarded banana stems. The yarn is used to make several products such as bags, handicraft items, paper and rakhees

केला एक नगदी फसल मानी जाती है। दुनिया के कुल उत्पादन में 25 फीसदी हिस्सेदारी के साथ भारत, विश्व का सबसे बड़ा केला उत्पादक है। आंध्र प्रदेश, तमिलनाडु, महाराष्ट्र, केरल, यूपी और एमपी का देश के केला उत्पादन में 70 फीसदी से अधिक योगदान है।
