विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन के अनुसार, मोनोकुलर ब्लाइंडनेस (एक आँख का अंधापन) का एक बड़ा कारण फंगल केराटॉसिस को माना जाता है। यह बीमारी विकासशील देशों में अधिक देखी गई है। अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर प्रतिष्ठित जर्नल लैंसेट में प्रकाशित एक हालिया अध्ययन के अनुसार दक्षिण एशिया में प्रति एक लाख ऐसे मामलों में 50% से अधिक मामले भारत में दर्ज किए जाते हैं।
