The state government has started the repair and maintenance works.

More than 300 bighas of ready-to-harvest wheat crops are deep waters in Chandauli district as the Warila-Minor canal overflows. Farmers complain that no maintenance work has been carried out on the canal which is cracked and heavily silted in places leading to flooding of their lands and rotting their crops.

The canal irrigation network in Uttar Pradesh measures upto 74,660 kilometres and includes rajbaha (smaller canals) and drains. Still, almost 78% of irrigation needs are met by groundwater, the levels of which are fast dropping. Water conflicts around irrigation are getting violent and such clashes have left a farmer dead in the past week.

उत्तर प्रदेश के मऊ और बलिया जिले के बीच साल 1952 में 60 किलोमीटर लंबी पक्की कैनाल (छोटी नहर) बनी थी, मोटर के पंप से इस नहर में सरयू नदी से पानी डाला जाता था, हजारों किसानों को फायदा मिलता था, लेकिन पिछले कुछ वर्षों में कैनाल की स्थिति दयनीय हो गई है। दीवारें टूट रही हैं, समय पर पानी नहीं आ रहा है। क्षेत्र के किसान परेशान हैं।
