झारखंड के सिमडेगा जिले में कम से कम 4,000 किसान दीदी और आदिवासी महिलाएं वनोपज के माध्यम से आजीविका कमा रही हैं। महिला किसान सशक्तिकरण परियोजना (एमकेएसपी) किसानों को स्थानीय बिचौलियों के चंगुल से भी बचा रही हैं।

किसान परंपरागत फसलों के साथ फसलचक्र अपनाकर औषधीय एवं सगंध पौधों की खेती करके लाभ कमा सकते हैं। औषधीय पौधे लगाने से किसानों को मुनाफे के साथ-साथ भूमि कि उर्वरता शक्ति भी बढ़ेगी।

कोविड 19 संक्रमण को रोकने के लिए लगे देशव्यापी लॉकडाउन होने के 2 साल बाद, झारखंड में अपने घरों को लौटे प्रवासी मजदूरों ने खेती करना शुरू कर दिया है और कई तरह की फसलें उगा रहे हैं। इनमें लेमन ग्रास और ब्रोकली जैसी विदेशी सब्जियां भी शामिल हैं, जिनसे वो बढ़िया मुनाफा कमा रहे हैं। झारखंड स्टेट लाइवलीहुड प्रमोशन सोसाइटी इन किसानों को प्रशिक्षण दे रही है और उनकी मदद कर रही है।

Two years after the nation-wide lockdown was imposed in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, migrant workers who returned to their homes in Jharkhand, have taken up farming and are growing a variety of crops, including lemon grass and exotic vegetables like broccoli, and reaping profits. Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society is training and supporting these farmers.
