कर्नाटक में चन्नापटना को प्यार से गोम्बेगला ऊरु या खिलौनों का शहर भी कहा जाता है। चन्नापटना की लगभग 35% आबादी प्रत्यक्ष या अप्रत्यक्ष रूप से लकड़ी के खिलौने उद्योग में शामिल है। जावेद सैय्यद ऐसे ही एक शिल्पकार हैं।

लकड़ी के खिलौनों की मांग में कमी, बाजार की अनुपलब्धता जैसे कई कारण से बुधनी के लकड़ी के खिलौने बनाने वाले कारीगरों को चुनौतियों का सामना कर पड़ा है। लेकिन राज्य सरकार का उनके शिल्प को समर्थन देने का वादे और कुछ नवाचार की वजह से कुछ वृद्धि भी हुई है, जिससे इन कारीगरों को उम्मीद की एक किरण दिखाई है।
