Malnourishment, tuberculosis and superstition are rampant in the Saharia particularly vulnerable tribal group of Madhya Pradesh, which has the highest TB burden in the country. A community-based awareness programme on malnutrition is trying to address the problem.

मध्य प्रदेश के खंडवा ज़िले में कोरकू आदिवासी समुदाय मुख्य रूप से प्रवासी मज़दूर हैं। इनके बच्चों के पास पढ़ने के लिए कोई साधन नहीं है। लेकिन एक स्कूल ने ऐसा कर दिखाया है कि अब वहाँ के सैकड़ों बच्चे न सिर्फ स्कूल आने लगे हैं बल्कि दूसरों को सीख़ भी दे रहे हैं।

The Korku tribal community of Khandwa district in Madhya Pradesh is predominantly migrant labourers and its members have no time or means to educate their children. A community school has managed to bring 4,000 Korku children, who had dropped out of school, back into learning.

An estimated 12,000 Bhil tribal residents along the Udai river in Nandurbar district of Maharashtra have no access to healthcare, education, livelihood, administration and communication. All because the promised bridge over the river Udai has been under construction for the past 15 years and still remains incomplete.

They lost their land to the Sardar Sarovar Dam and now the Bhil adivasi fisherfolk of the predominantly tribal district Nandurbar in north Maharashtra are struggling with a decline in fish catch in the dam’s reservoir. Despite the introduction of cage aquaculture to enhance fishers’ livelihoods, their woes are far from over.

इन लोगों ने सरदार सरोवर बांध के लिए अपनी जमीन खो दी और अब उत्तरी महाराष्ट्र के आदिवासी बहुल जिले नंदुरबार के भील आदिवासी मछुआरे बांध के जलाशय में मछली उत्पादन में गिरावट से जूझ रहे हैं। मछुआरों की आजीविका बढ़ाने के लिए केज फिश फार्मिंग की शुरूआत के बावजूद, उनकी मुश्किलें कम नहीं हो रहीं हैं।

सुभाष यादव, मध्य प्रदेश के एक राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार से सम्मानित शिक्षक, जहां उन्होंने धार जिले के दूर-दराज के गाँवों में एक नहीं बल्कि दो ऐसे स्कूलों में बदलाव की बयार चलाई जहां कभी न के बराबर बच्चे थे आज वही स्कूल अभिभावकों और उनके बच्चों के पसंदीदा स्कूल बन गए हैं।
