PICKING UP THE PIECES POST FLOODS

In Bihar people have started returning to their homes, which no longer exist. For them now begins the uphil task of picking up the pieces and looking at rebuilding their lives.

Around 76.85 lakh people in 12 districts of the state have been hit by the calamity. The death toll has climbed to 104.

According to the state's Disaster Management Department officias, the number of relief camps and people taking shelter in camps besides the number of community kitchens has gone down as the water-level is receding in the 12 flood-affected districts -- Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Araria, Sheohar, Darbhanga, Purnea, Kishanganj, Supaul, East Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Saharsa and Katihar.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Bihar State Disaster Response Fund personnel, equipped with 125 boats, are engaged in relief and rescue operations.
