The Bill seeks to modify the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 which restricts the diversion of forested lands for non-forest purposes including clearing of any forest land or its portion for mining, agriculture or infrastructural projects. It is passed it Lok Sabha but is yet to be debated and passed in the Upper House and achieve President's assent before it becomes an Act or the law.

The state government claims that it has done its bit to help those affected by floods, but the ground reality is quite different.As per the official data, 81 lakh people were directly affected in the state, but more than 60 lakh couldn't find a place in any relief camps, because there were none. Similarly, 835 community kitchens were set up in 12 districts comprising 105 blocks and 1,240 panchayats. This means, there was one community kitchen for more than 7,000 people

The government has been consistently promoting the production and consumption of millets for a variety of reasons. Besides being extremely nutritious and relatively cheap, millets, in comparison with wheat and paddy, consume very less water. Besides this, their farming doesn't call for urea or any other chemical making it environment-friendly

While answering a question pertaining to the availability of data on manual scavenging in the country, the Union government stated there is no report on the practice of manual scavenging in any district. It also mentioned that 530 districts have eradicated the practice of manual scavenging. However, Bezwada Wilson, an activist who works for the interests of manual scavengers, termed these claims as 'false'. Details here.
