Anganwadi centres in Haryana and Delhi are shut for the past almost three months and one month, respectively. This has affected the supply of dry rations to hundreds of thousand under-6 children enrolled with these early childcare centres. It's been more than two years since children in Uttar Pradesh's anganwadis have been served hot cooked meals, though most other states have resumed them, post pandemic. But India's most populous state, with a high burden of malnutrition, continues to distribute dry rations. The state government has given an assurance that hot meals will be resumed from January 2023.

Hundreds of anganwadi workers protested in Delhi for 38 days and called it off when the Delhi government invoked the law refraining protests for the workers occupied in essential services. Upon returning to their centres, about 500 workers found that they had been fired. The anganwadi workers have now moved Delhi High Court against the state government's termination of their services.
