A primary school teacher in Bareilly, UP has made it her business to step out of her classroom and help the women in the village understand the importance of menstrual hygiene.

माहवारी जैसे मुद्दों पर अक्सर लोग खुलकर नहीं बोलना चाहते, लेकिन अब राजस्थान के ग्रामीण इलाकों में इस पर खुलकर चर्चा की जा रही है। किशोर मित्र, ऐसे लोगों की आवाज बन रहे हैं जिनपर कोई बात नहीं करना चाहता था।

देशव्यापी लॉकडाउन में लाखों किशोरियों और महिलाओं को सेनेटरी पैड न मिलने से इनकी मुश्किलें बढ़ी हैं। लॉकडाउन में जरूरत के सामान की दुकानें तो खुली हैं लेकिन सुदूर और दुर्गम क्षेत्रों की दुकानों पर सेनेटरी पैड खत्म हो चुके हैं। इन मुश्किल हालातों में लड़कियों की मदद के लिए कुछ 'कोरोना वारियर्स" आगे आये हैं जो लड़कियों के एक फोन कॉल पर उनके घर तक सेनेटरी पैड पहुंचा रहे हैं।

पीरियड्स के दौरान अगर ठीक से ध्यान न दिया जाए तो आगे मुश्किलें हो सकती हैं, इन्हीं सब चीजों को अब गाँव की लड़कियाँ समझने लगीं हैं।

निशा एक साल से उन्ही चार कपड़े के टुकड़ों से ही अपना गुज़ारा कर रही हैं जो उसकी मां ने उसे पहली बार माहवारी होने पर दिए थे और आज तक उसने सैनिटरी नैपकिन देखा भी नहीं। पूछे जाने पर कि वो नैपकिन इस्तेमाल करती हैं या नहीं, पहले निशा कुछ देर अपने दोस्तों का चेहरा देखती रही फिर बोली, "नेपकिन, वो क्या होता है?"

Menstrual hygiene and reproductive health, issues usually talked about in whispers, are now being openly discussed in the rural pockets of Rajasthan. Kishor Mitra, friends of adolescents, who were once victims of social exclusion have scripted this change.

While people living in cities have an option to choose from a range of sanitary napkins available in markets and they even have an option to choose among pads, menstrual cups and tampons, but women living in villages don't even know what pads are.
