With the IMD officially declaring severe heatwave conditions in eastern Uttar Pradesh of which Ballia is a part of, at least 68 people in the district have been reported as dead and more than 400 have been hospitalised in the last 3 days. The deaths have sent alarm bells ringing but so far, the authorities have denied the heat wave to be the cause of this medical emergency. Similar reports are surfacing from Bihar which witnessed almost 50 such deaths. Details here.
