Gaon Connection has accessed the report of a fact-finding team that investigated 24 deaths in 24 hours, including 11 neonatal deaths at Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College in Maharashtra’s Nanded district. It is found that the healthcare support at the hospital is overwhelmed by a massive influx of patients from the rural areas. Details here.

Last week, the district hospital in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh reported a surge in deaths for which a probe is underway. Gaon Connection met some families who brought their sick family members to the hospital during extreme heat conditions prevailing in the district, but lost them. The government has denied any link between the deaths and the heatwave.

In the past one week, amidst extreme heat conditions, Ballia in Uttar Pradesh reported a spate of deaths. A probe is underway to find out the cause behind these deaths. The district administration has denied any linkage to the heatwave. Gaon Connection travelled to the eastern district and visited families who claim to have lost their loved ones under mysterious circumstances.
