Several blocks in India’s most flood-prone state experience groundwater scarcity. Paani Samitis can promote efficient use of water for irrigation, improve access to potable water, and promote adoption of indigenous water conservation practices.

Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka — which comprise more than 25 per cent of the country’s land area — show huge stress in groundwater reserves. In Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab, extraction of groundwater is more than their annual recharge.

पानी की तलाश में मीलों दूर जाने वाली गाँव की महिलाओं के लिए घर पर नल वरदान साबित हो रहा है; विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन ने कहा है कि हर गाँव के सभी घरों में नल लगने से वहाँ की महिलाओं के पास कई घंटे बच सकेंगे।

जल जीवन मिशन ने पिछले 23 महीने में 4.5 करोड़ घरों में नल के पानी की आपूर्ति की है। जल जीवन मिशन के अनुसार इस समय देश के 71 जिलों, 824 प्रखंडों, 50,309 ग्राम पंचायतों और 1,00,275 गांवों में ‘हर घर जल’का लक्ष्य हासिल कर लिया गया है।
