नया वैज्ञानिक अध्ययन बताता है कि बुखार शरीर की एक शक्तिशाली एंटीवायरल रक्षा है, लेकिन पक्षियों से आए कुछ इन्फ्लुएंजा वायरस ऊँचे तापमान में भी आसानी से बढ़ते हैं। यही कारण है कि ऐसे वायरस इंसानों में ज़्यादा गंभीर बीमारी और महामारी का रूप ले सकते हैं
