बुंदेलखंड में अक्सर लोग पानी का रोना रोते रहते हैं। यही समस्या यहाँ के लोगों के पलायन का कारण भी बनती है, लेकिन यहाँ कुछ ऐसे भी गाँव हैं जहाँ पानी की समस्या अब खत्म हो गई है।

हर राज्य और हर क्षेत्र की अपनी ज़रूरतें और चुनौतियाँ हैं, लेकिन अगर स्थानीय भूगोल के अनुसार उपयुक्त जल संरक्षण पद्धति अपनाई जाए, तो पानी की किल्लत से न सिर्फ बचा जा सकता है, बल्कि आने वाली पीढ़ियों के लिए भी जलस्रोत सुरक्षित किया जा सकता है।

हाइड्रोजेल की मदद से किसान कम पानी में भी फसलों से बढ़िया उत्पादन पा सकते हैं, लेकिन ज्यादातर हाइड्रोजेल ऐसे होते हैं जो जल्दी नष्ट नहीं होते और पर्यावरण के लिए नुकसानदायक होते हैं। ऐसे में त्रिपुरा विश्वविद्यालय के वैज्ञानिकों ने पौधों के सेल्यूलोज से हाइड्रोजेल विकसित किया है। जोकि पर्यावरण के लिए पूरी तरह सुरक्षित है।

But, with the advent of handpumps and now piped water supply, these water bodies have been encroached upon by buildings, bhavans, playgrounds or putrefying garbage dumps. With changing climates and increased water stress, protecting and reviving the village ponds has become imperative.
