Indian folk art, 'Madhubani Painting' is world famous for its bright organic colors and fine strokes. Based on Hindu mythological stories, Mahbubani painting is one of its own kind. It flourishes in the Indian state of Bihar.

Indian folk art, 'Madhubani Painting' is world famous for its bright organic colours and fine strokes. Based on Hindu mythological stories, Mahbubani painting is one of its own kind. It flourishes in the Indian state of Bihar.

The name 'Madhubani' is after district Madhubani. It is an integral part of the local culture where Madhubani Painting is must during marriages, festivals and other auspicious occasions. Its remote village of Jitwarpur came into limelight when Sita Devi, a resident won the prestigious Indian Award, Bharat Ratna.

In Jitwarpur, Madhubani Painting is the primary source of income. Its organic colours are made from leaves, flowers and fruits. Almost 90% of the houses have Madhubani Painting artists. Most of them are Women.

There are five specific branches of Madhubani Art- Kohbar, Bharni, Kachni, Tantrik and Godna. Here are some pictures from Gaon Connection reporter Jigyasa Mishra who visited this art clad village of Jitwarpur.
