From having to depend on their brothers and husbands for the expenses incurred in enjoying festivities, about 9,000 women in the rural areas of Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district are now not only able to relish the festivities on their own expense but are also able to contribute to the household incomes.

छत्तीसगढ़ के नक्सल प्रभावित बस्तर जिले में आदिवासी महिलाएं बांस से इको-फ्रेंडली राखियां और कई तरह के गहने बना रही हैं। जिला प्रशासन और एक स्थानीय गैर-लाभकारी संस्था के प्रयास से इन आदिवासी महिलाओं को सशक्त बनाया जा रहा है, जोकि पहले खेतों में मजदूरी किया करती थीं।

महिलाएं रक्षाबंधन त्योहार में ज्यादातर अपने भाइयों और पतियों पर निर्भर रहती हैं, उत्तर प्रदेश के बाराबंकी जिले की लगभग 9 हजार ग्रामीण महिलाएं अब न केवल अपने खर्च पर उत्सव का आनंद लेने में सक्षम हैं, बल्कि अपनी घरेलू आय में योगदान करने में सक्षम भी हैं।
