Because it grows beneath the soil and is sweet as sugar, this vegetable is aptly called Shakkerkund in Hindi and sweet potato in English.

As per the study conducted by Japanese scientists, the juice of sweet potato is effective in curbing the spread and development of cancerous tissues in breast cancer patients.

Boil sweet potato and peel it thereafter. Place the peeled sweet potato, after chopping it fine, in bowl and heat ghee in a deep bottomed pan. Add chopped gur (jaggery) pieces to the ghee and let it dissolve to make a syrup. Add sweet potato to the syrup and let it soak up the syrup. Add roasted chironji (Charoli nuts) and mix well. Sweet potato halwa is ready! Sweet potato also has iron, folate, copper, magnesium and other vitamins to boost our immune system.

Skin doesn't wrinkle easily and stays glowing if sweet potato is regularly consumed. Eating it also improves vision. Its beta carotene fights with free radicals and keeps aging at bay. Vitamin C in sweet potatoes produces collagen to keep skin younger.
